We are always asking something else (dare I say: something more vulnerable) when we ask each other anything.
In one of the first workshops I taught, a few writers stayed after class to ask some questions and chat. Nicole asked me, “What does your day look like? Like, how do you schedule your time?” which I answered literally and in detail: wake up, stretch, coffee, journal (most days), at least consider meditating, drink a smoothie, do my creative work first and office-y work later, etc etc. Another writer in the group, Audrey, then asked something that has changed the way I listen, reflect, and answer questions (this is all a little embarrassing that I didn’t catch this before, but I am willing to fall on the sword of embarrassment for this point because it’s just that good):
